ROV-Based EM Detection Inland Waters
NjordIC has recently achieved a significant milestone while supporting a major Dutch construction consortium. The operation was prompted by the discovery of several ordnance items in a designated work area. In response, a targeted detection campaign was launched, during which an electromagnetic (EM) sensor was mounted on a Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV) for the first time on such a large scale.
The innovative use of the ROV enabled the EM sensor to be positioned extremely close to the seabed, significantly increasing both detection sensitivity and accuracy. This approach allowed for a systematic and efficient survey of the area, without disrupting the natural sediment layers or interfering with ongoing preparatory construction activities.
Following completion of the detection works, the area was safely cleared and released for regular operations. The successful execution of this project once again highlights NjordIC’s pragmatic methodology, technological innovation, and strong collaboration with partners in the (marine) construction sector.
